NOT "JUST A DOOR"
If you are seeking “just a door”, then we are likely not the best fit. Our work is functional art and quality craftsmanship designed, built, and installed. Custom work can cost more, but we are a small, local business with real craftspeople who dedicate themselves to personal quality and passion for this work.
OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY
Our workmanship utilizes olde wood reclaimed by us from olde buildings, barns, homes, sawmills, attics, from around New England. Our hardware is made from US metals and parts sourced locally, and we hand-assemble everything in our Amesbury, MA workshop.
WE LOVE WHAT WE DO
The Barndoorist is a VERY passionate person. He loves what he does and that passion translates right into the creation of your doors. He is fortunate to have you as a customer but you are lucky to have found him! A rare type indeed!

SOME OF OUR COMMON DOOR DESIGNS
UNIQUE SOLUTIONS
We don't just make doors, we install them in your interior space to maximize the beauty of art and utility. We believe in displaying the natural, olde wood in its true form and do not tend to stain or paint our wood. We are not handymen or contractors, we are artisans.
The Sideways Marie Antoinette
A Northshore Barn Door Exclusive Solution (Limited Space)
Our Marblehead, Massachusetts customer has an alcove which is 69” wide but the wall on which a barn door would start from is only 56” wide...
This concept enables one entire section of the door, in this case, a 14” wide leaf, to extend out and retract much like a drawer. Or, as was the case with the former famed French female figure, it is like how the guillotine comes out to do what it does best, only to be reset and readied once more. The Barndoorist hid behind the door in the alcove to perform this magic.
The Cornering Door!
A Northshore Barn Door Exclusive Solution (Limited Space)
The kitchen pantry is nearly 5-feet wide. The wall next to it is 4-feet wide. The North Reading, Massachusetts family wanted one 5-foot by 7-foot barn door but they did not want their large door to overhang into the pantry or the hallway next to the wall. The solution? It actually turns a corner when opened! (Construction was still being done on walls/floors at the time this video was taken.)
The Reverse Cornering Barn Door
A Northshore Barn Door Exclusive Solution (Obstructions)
Repeat customer Steve from Portland, Maine wanted to put in a 36" wide barn door for a bathroom entry of that width but the wall next to the door was far less than 36" wide and the wall cornered there too. So Steve inspired The Barndoorist to come up with the "General Patton, Just Get it Done!" door to solve the problem. Take a look at this one of a kind solution and consider it for your next tricky space where you would love to have a barn door and didn't think it could happen. Yes sir, it can!
